Madame Marchig has made the welfare of animals her life’s work, and has supported several hundred projects throughout the world, including the veterinary care and treatment of animals in the developing world (notably scores of neutering, welfare and re-homing programmes for companion animals), the protection of wildlife, and educational and campaigning work against cruelty, especially against fur-trapping, canned hunting, whaling, animal transports, and bullfighting.

“Madame Marchig has been a magnificent advocate for the animals” said Professor Andrew Linzey. “There is hardly a part of the world in which animals have not benefited from her generosity. Single-handedly, she has made the world a better place for animals”, commented Professor Linzey.

In addition, Annual Marchig Awards are made to organizations and individuals for outstanding achievements for their pioneering contributions throughout the world. Among the recipients of the Award are: Animals Australia, Maneka Gandhi, Dr Chinny Krishna, Shirley McGreal, Jill Robinson, Robert Smith, and the Tsunami Memorial Animal Welfare Trust.

Every year the Centre invites one or more outstanding individuals to become Honorary Fellows. Our current Honorary Fellows are the Nobel Laureate for Literature, Professor J. M. Coetzee, the distinguished international philanthropist, Dr Irene W. Crowe, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Winchester, Professor Joy Carter.

The Centre is honoured to have Madame Marchig, who is a world pioneer in animal protection, as its fourth Honorary Fellow.
